A Business With BIG Heart

Giving back has been a passion for the Cannarella family since starting A1 Furniture out of their garage in 1980. Today the business has grown to three locations across Madison area and so has A1’s ability to give back. Each month, A1 is committed to supporting a local organization that makes a difference in the community by spreading awareness, making donations, and supporting events.

"Business to us is not just about making a profit. It's about helping others and being able to give back to the community. It's who we always have been and are today. Supporting our community is a must. And that's one of the big reasons I do this."

- Paul Cannarella, Owner

We are a strong community supporter donating funds and items to local charities that include:

2021 Organizations

Porchlight

Porchlight strives to reduce homelessness in Dane County by collaborating with the community to provide shelter, affordable housing, and supportive services that eliminate barriers and empower the individuals and families they serve.

Badger Prairie Needs Network

Badger Prairie Needs Network operates one of the busiest food pantries in Dane County. BPNN also offers free community meals, nutrition education, hands-on cooking classes, a community garden, and legal advocacy to fight homelessness. And they're 100% volunteer run!

Autism Society of South Central Wisconsin

"We are a largely volunteer run organization that focuses on educational outreach, public policy advocacy, support groups for all family members and building awareness. We recognize that each person has special attributes with ways to contribute, and that's why we are committed to societal inclusion in hope of earning respect and tolerance for all individuals on the spectrum from diagnosis through the life span."

dryhootch

A nonprofit formed by combat Veterans to help Veterans in their return home. The Veteran run retail coffee shop also supports an extended network of Veteran families, and encourage Veteran interaction with the community as a whole. “Hootch” is military jargon for a hut or safe place to sleep during combat. The term “dry” denotes the organization’s mission to provide a social gathering place for Veterans that is free of alcohol.

Gilda's Club Madison

Gilda's Club Madison creates a community of free emotional support, cancer education, and hope for children and adults with any cancer diagnosis and those who care for them. We currently serve more than 4,000 members. Our club is a welcoming environment away from the emotionally charged health care setting where people can just be themselves and share themselves with others.

Underdog Pet Rescue

A rescue that helps the neediest of animals, while providing a quality experience for adopters and clients. Underdog has grown to save thousands of lives through 75 foster homes with support before, during, and after adoptions. Plus, Underdog offers veterinary services open to the public so they can help more animals in the community!

Goodman Community Center

Strengthening lives & securing futures. GCC is committed to creating and maintaining a community that respects and values diverse life experiences. Everyone deserves respect and acceptance without bias. GCC does this by providing programming for all ages including recreation & fitness, creating job skills, helping with food insecurity, and so much more!

The Road Home of Dane County

The Road Home provides opportunities for homeless children and their families to achieve self-determined goals and affordable, stable housing. In their work, Road Home increasingly sees the importance of helping families overcome barriers to housing and gain skills needed to maintain stable housing successfully.

Reach-a-Child

Providing First Responders with REACH BAGs filled with books and drawstring backpacks to help comfort children-in-crisis. When First Responders encounter a child-in-crisis, they offer the child a book which the child gets to keep. The First Responder also gives the child a drawstring backpack to put the book in – and anything else the child might have to keep with them.

The River Food Pantry

Dane County’s busiest food pantry, offering free groceries, meals, mobile lunches and clothing to anyone who comes for help. More than just meals, The River provides a warm and welcoming family atmosphere where everyone is treated with respect, encouraged to find the support they need, and given the opportunity to share what they can with others.
